Position Title: Middle School Youth Minister
Location: St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Gates Mills, Ohio
Reports to: Pastor
Status: Full-Time
Salary: Based on experience and education
Position Summary: The Middle School Youth Minister is responsible for developing and leading a vibrant, dynamic, and faith-filled program for middle school students in the parish. The role involves creating opportunities for students to deepen their relationship with Christ, grow in their Catholic faith, and engage in community service, as well as facilitating fun, engaging, and educational activities that foster a welcoming environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Faith Formation & Spiritual Development:
o Develop, plan, and lead faith formation programs for middle school students, including catechesis, Bible study, prayer services, retreats, and spiritual development activities.
o Ensure all programs align with the teachings of the Catholic Church and the mission of the parish.
o Create opportunities for youth to encounter Christ through prayer, sacraments, and personal reflection.
2. Youth Ministry Programming:
o Plan, coordinate, and lead regular youth group meetings and events that foster fellowship, spiritual growth, and discipleship.
o Organize and lead seasonal retreats (e.g., Advent, Lent) and service projects to promote Christian values and community engagement.
o Provide a safe and welcoming environment for all middle school youth, including outreach to new families.
3. Volunteer and Adult Leader Coordination:
o Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and adult leaders who assist in youth ministry activities and events.
o Work with parish staff and other ministries (such as religious education, liturgy, and service) to integrate middle school youth into the broader parish community.
4. Communication & Family Engagement:
o Maintain open communication with youth and their families, keeping them informed about upcoming events, activities, and opportunities.
o Encourage family participation in faith-based activities, service projects, and parish events.
o Assist in maintaining the parish youth ministry website and social media to keep families engaged.
5. Administration & Recordkeeping:
o Keep accurate records of attendance, event participation, and volunteer involvement.
o Manage registration for youth programs and retreats, ensuring that all necessary documentation is collected and up-to-date (e.g., consent forms, health records).
6. Professional Development:
o Stay current with trends in youth ministry, Catholic teaching, and effective leadership.
o Attend diocesan and parish youth ministry meetings, workshops, and retreats for personal and professional growth

Requirements
• A deep and vibrant faith in Jesus Christ, grounded in the teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Strong understanding of Catholic theology and devotion, especially as it pertains to middle school-age students.
• Previous experience in youth ministry or working with students in a Catholic environment is preferred.
• A degree in theology, religious education, or a related field is preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead and work with middle school-aged students, creating an environment where they are valued and heard.
• Certification or willingness to obtain certification in youth ministry (diocesan or equivalent) and compliance with safe environment protocols.
